Phonetic: vy-OH-la ped-AY-tuh

Bird's Foot Violet is a clumping perennial with large, pansy-sized flowers that bloom in the spring and in some cases, again in the fall. The leaves resemble a bird's foot, hence the name. This perennial needs good soil drainage in sandy or gravelly soil. It is a well behaved violet that does not compete well with other plants. The bicolored form of this species with the two deep violet upper petals and the lilac colored three lower petals has been considered the most beautiful violet in the world.
