Allegheny Serviceberry is a deciduous shrub or multi-trunk tree in the rose family. The showy, slightly fragrant white flowers arrive in the spring, followed by purple edible berries that mature in June. These berries resemble blueberries in size, color and taste. In the fall the leaves turn a striking orange-red. This plant is used as a small shade tree, specimen shrub or shrub in borders and hedges. This Serviceberry is distinguished by other Serviceberries by it's hairless foliage, purple-tinged new growth and tastier berries. It is attractive to pollinators and a favorite berry of birds. Prefers moist well drained soils.
