Most shrubs will not be ready before the first week of June when they are fully leafed out.
Arrowwood viburnum is a hardy deciduous shrub that can grow in a variety of light conditions, from full sun to part shade, and does well in moist to medium soil, though it is resilient enough to handle moderate drought once established
Arrowood Viburnum typically blooms from late spring to early summer, around May to June. During this time, it produces clusters of small, creamy white flowers that are rich in nectar and pollen. By late summer to early fall, these blossoms develop into clusters of dark blue to purplish-black, berry-like fruit. These fruits mature in late August through October and are highly attractive to birds, which consume them eagerly and help disperse the seeds. Though the fruits do not persist into winter, their seasonal abundance provides critical nourishment during the migration period for many bird species.
Arrowwood Viburnum plays an essential role in supporting pollinators and wildlife. Its flowers attract a wide array of bees, butterflies, and other native pollinators, including beneficial predatory wasps. The foliage serves as a host plant for the larvae of several moths and butterflies, such as the spring azure. In addition to providing nectar and larval food, its dense, multi-stemmed from offers nesting and shelter for birds and small mammals.
