Prune as needed in late winter to early spring. Plants may be cut to the ground every 3-5 years to maintain a smaller shrub shape. Both male and female catkins appear on separate shrubs. The early March catkins provide one of the first-of-the-season nectar and pollen sources for pollinators. Host Plant for Viceroys.
